Waxing Reactions
We can not predict who may have a reaction or guarantee you won't have a reaction. However, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and irritation.
Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation.
Ingrown hair
This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as, heavy exercise, saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, other activities including heat or friction, sex, and wearing tight or lacy clothing. Avoiding the listed for 24–48 hours will help decrease the chances of getting ingrowns. Exfoliating and moisturizing between waxes starting 24–48 hours after a wax will help decrease the chances of ingrowns as it removes the layer of dead skin and hydrates the skin, allowing the growing hair to come through the skin.
Skin lifting
This can happen during certain times of the month; it can also happen because of medications and products being used. It can happen if the skin isn't being pulled tight enough or if the body moves when the strip is pulled. It will also happen if you are a regular tanner, as it dries the skin out, and the skin sheds way before it is meant to. If this happens, use Polysporin to help heal the skin. Please let us know if you are on any new medications or using new products before a wax.
Hyper-pigmentation (skin darkening)
Waxing makes your sun photo sensitive. Avoid the sun immediately after waxing, and please wear sunscreen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) and sunburns if exposed to the sun after a wax.
Allergic reaction
Generally, they will look like hives or itchiness. This can occur at times. If this happens, Benadryl or an antihistamine is the ideal thing to take. This doesn't mean you cannot get waxed, this just means you may have a reaction without an antihistamine. For the itching, Polysporin or aloe will help sooth the skin.
Hives
Hives are raised welts or bumps on the surface of the skin. Hives post waxing are usually because either it is your first wax or you don’t get waxed very frequently. These hives will naturally disappear on their own, but using a cold compress after your wax will cool the temperature of the skin, or using aloe Vera or Polysporin can also help heal the skin. This will reduce redness and calm any itchiness.
Skin infection
It is extremely important that you do not scratch/itch or touch newly waxed skin. This is because if we scratch a waxed area and our hands are not clean, we can cause small tears in the skin and that bacteria in our hands and nails can cause skin infections.
